3 Tips For Your Escort Display/ Seating Chart At Your Wedding.
Wedding Planning can be a stressful time, especially if you are doing everything yourself. Your Escort Display or Seating Chart is an important piece of your wedding. It is vital for guest experience, as it aims to communicate quickly, and often times in an interactive way, where guests will be seated during your wedding reception.
After being a wedding planner in Houston for over a decade, you can imagine I’ve seen just about every type of escort card display there is!
Here are 3 tips for your wedding seating chart, or escort card display, that you may overlook:
Design Your Seating Chart Alphabetically
I never knew this was an issue, and that is bad on me for assuming, but I thought this was a tip that everyone knew already. When you are designing your display for your wedding, be sure to design it alphabetically by your guests’ last name—not by table number.
The reason is, it will take guests a lot longer to have to hunt for their name if you don’t have it arranged by their last name. When you’re thinking through planning your wedding with a guest experience forward mindset, every decision you make needs to highlight your preferences, while at the same time providing an environment for your guests to have a great time. This includes being able to find their table number, or seat number, quickly.
2. Placement Is Key
Whether you are doing escort cards, a seating chart sign, or an escort display, where you place it matters. Because your guests will need to review it before entering your wedding reception, you may be thinking to place it at the entrance of your reception. This is only the correct placement, if you are not doing a cocktail hour.
If you are doing a cocktail hour at your wedding, then you’ll want your escort display, or seating chart placed in the cocktail hour area. Either off to the side of the bar, or somewhere where it can be easily seen, and guests can take a moment to find their table number.
Placing it at the reception entrance will cause a bottleneck, and take too much time for your guests to find their appropriate table number for your wedding reception.
3. Don’t Forget To Layout Your Escort Cards!
This may seem silly, but if you are planning your wedding by yourself, make sure to think through who will lay out your escort cards before your guests arrive to cocktail hour. Whether it be a member of your wedding venue staff, your parent, or a friend, plan it out ahead of time so its one less thing you have to worry about on your wedding day!
If you overlook planning this out, it will make your wedding look unorganized, and unprepared for. And you and I both know people can’t say that about your day, right? These small tips start to add up if you don’t think through them while you’re on the wedding planning journey, and instead have them all rush towards you with only minutes to spare on your wedding day.
